How to Test Relief Valve Leakage Rate

The safety relief valve leakage rate test is also known as relief valve airtightness test. It is designed to evaluate the relief valve sealing performance to ensure that the relief valve can effectively play a protective role at critical moments. To accurately detect the leakage rate of the safety valve, the safety relief valve test bench and the bubble counter are required.

Protocol of Safety Relief Valve Leakage Rate Test

The safety valve leakage rate experiment usually uses air or nitrogen as the test medium. First of all, inject air or nitrogen at the required pressure into the relief valve, and then maintain the pressure for a certain time ( not less than 15 minutes normally ). During the pressure maintenance period, use the air bubble counter to count the air bubbles leaking from the relief valve to obtain the leakage rate.

Operation Steps of Relief Valve Leak Rate Testing

1.First of all, use the hydraulic clamp of the safety valve test bench to clamp and seal the safety valve.
2.Plug and seal the outlet of the pressure relief valve, but leave a hole open. Then connect the air bubble counter to the relief valve with a conduit through the hole.
3.Set the testing pressure and pressure maintenance time on the safety relief valve test bench. At this time, the machine will inject the air or nitrogen of your preset pressure into the relief valve. And the machine will automatically stop and maintain the pressure after reaching your preset pressure.
4.During the pressure maintenance period, the air or nitrogen leaked from the relief valve enters the water tank of the bubble counter through the conduit to form bubbles. The bubble counter will automatically count the number of bubbles generated.

After the pressure maintenance period ends, the bubble counter automatically stops counting, and the relief valve test bench automatically unload pressure, so the safety valve leakage test is completed.

The leakage rate of the relief valve can be calculated by the measurement results recorded on the air bubble counter. By comparing it with the specified leakage rate limit, you can determine whether the air tightness of the relief valve is qualified.
