Why Vacuum Gas Cylinder before Filling Gas

Under normal circumstances, it is not necessary to vacuum gas cylinder before filling gas. However, vacuuming gas cylinder is necessary before filling purity gas, flammable gas or fire extinguishing agent into cylinder. Firstly, it can remove moisture, air, and impurities from the cylinder, and create a clean and dry environment for subsequent gas filling, thus ensuring the purity of new gas. Secondly, it effectively prevents moisture and impurities from corroding gas cylinder. Finally, it eliminates the potential safety hazard caused by the mixing of flammable gas filled into the cylinder with residual air. In short, to ensure gas purity and cylinder safety, it is necessary to vacuum gas cylinder before filling it with new gas.

How to Vacuum Gas Cylinder

First of all, you need to connect a vacuum pump and a vacuum pressure gauge onto the cylinder valve. Then active the vacuum pump and observe the vacuum gauge. When the gauge indicates the vacuum degree in cylinder between -0.05MPa and -0.1MPa, turn off the vacuum pump. Finally, you can proceed the operation of filling new gas into the cylinder.

Situations Requiring Vacuuming Gas Cylinder

1.If the gas you want to fill is a flammable gas, such as hydrogen, methane, oxygen, refrigerant, LPG, butane and more, vacuuming cylinder before filling flammable gas into cylinder is necessary.
2.If your gas is intended for the food and beverage industry, or if you are filling a high-purity gas, it is required to vacuum cylinder.
3.Before refilling new extinguishing agent into fire cylinder, such as carbon dioxide, NOVEC or FM-200, it is usually necessary to vacuum fire extinguisher cylinder.
