High Pressure Booster Pump
Air Powered High Pressure Booster Pump
The high pressure booster pump is a pneumatic pump and includes air driven hydraulic pumps, gas boosters, liquid gas pumps and air pressure amplifiers. It utilizes the area ratio of large and small pistons to generate a boost ratio to pressurize and transfer fluids.
The high pressure pump consists of two sections: air drive cylinder with a large piston inside and high-pressure cylinder with a small piston inside. And a shaft connects the two pistons. Under the action of a pneumatic shuttle valve, the compressed air pushes the large piston to reciprocate, so the small piston reciprocates synchronously. According to Pascal’s law, the drive air pressure multiplied by the large piston area is equal to the high-pressure cylinder internal pressure multiplied by the small piston area. Therefore, after the gas or liquid medium enters the high-pressure cylinder, it is continuously compressed by the small piston to obtain high pressure, and then the high-pressure fluid is discharged.

How to Operate the High Pressure Pump
The discharge pressure of a high pressure booster pump is equal to the drive air pressure multiplied by the pump boost ratio. Actually, the boost ratio is fixed, and is the area ratio of the large and small pistons of the booster pump. So the high pressure pump discharge pressure is proportional to the drive air pressure. Installing an air regulator and a pressure gauge to the pump, a basic fluid booster circuit is ready.
By adjusting the air regulator and observing the pressure gauge, you can preset a discharge pressure for the high pressure pump. Once the pump starts running, it will output high-pressure fluid constantly. And it will automatically stop and standby when reaching preset pressure. High pressure pumps use 1-8 Bar compressed air as power, which usually come from an air compressor. Alternatively, a pressurized nitrogen cylinder can drive the high pressure pump if workshop air is not available on site.
